What are the Four Core Support Programs?

Information and Networking Having clear and accurate information is one of the first steps in talking control of your life. Information is the key to having choices, making decisions, and learning to take risks.

Peer Support Peer support at ILRCs is designed to provide opportunities for people to share their experiences and what they have learned. Being able to spend time with someone who is or was in the same boat can be helpful.

IL Skills Development Knowing what your rights are, communicating, negotiating, problem solving and personal management are all important aspects of daily life. However, sometimes finding your way through the system can be difficult and confusing. ILRCs help individuals gain the service to which they are entitled. Centres support individuals to advocate on their own behalf, supporting their choices, respecting their decisions, and allowing individuals to take risks. (employment, literacy, and technology, workshops and skills development training)

Research and Community Development Focuses on demonstrating IL models of services delivery. Consumer tested and validated information provides the key to developing services that benefit the whole community. Another very important function of this program develops partnerships with individuals, community organizations, governments, schools, universities and businesses. By working together, gaps in service can be determined and new options and solutions can be created.
